• Maggie was born July 15, 1867 as Maggie Dalena who would later be called Maggie Lena to Father: Eccles Cuthbert (Irish born Newspaper man, journalist, correspondent for the New York Herald and Northern abolitionist). Although he remained in Richmond until 1890, Eccles did not marry Elizabeth because marriage between Negroes and whites would be illegal in Virginia until 1967.
• Mother: Elizabeth Draper (b? died 1922)  was an ex-slave,freed before the civil war by the Van Lew family and she chose to remain a house servant, cook's assistant, laundress in the Mansion of Elizabeth Van Lew, who was An abolitionist and Union Spy in the civil War. As Quakers the Van Lews did not believe in slavery.

• Maggie Lena Draper-Mitchell (1867-1934) married Armstead Walker (1852-June 20,1915)  September 14, 1886;  he was a building contractor and was shot by his sonRussell who thought he was an intruder. He died in 1924. Russell was acquitted.
